Campaign. Kalgave invades Ostland forest

They had been travelling the dark forest trails for days through the storms. Driving rain and mud. Days of icy snow. But Kalgave and his giant beast pushed forward, always ahead. Then they stopped.

"We're here. Find the monolith!" He bellowed

The warriors scattered. The knights split. Kalgave was sniffing the air.

A squrriel runs up the leg of the Priest of Taal and pulls himself on the mans shoulder and squeaks intensely. The Priest nods, inhales mightily and jogs towards a distant light.

Men of Ostland do not drink little. A night nearly pitch black with driving rain is good night for drinking. Woodsmen and local mountain kin filled the pub, a few of the militia on a quick break from their patrol to warm up. A night of quiet murmering and solid drinking.

The doors slam open. His hugely muscled form blocking the entrance. The antlers of the helmet towering over the them. Lightning crashed behind. "I need the good men of Ostland with me tonight!"

The Warriors pushed through to the clearing, swinging their throwing axes, hacking a path. They felt a low throbbing in their ears and jaw. "We found it." He turned back "Lord!"

Kalgave leap to his steeds back and galloped towards the call of his men. The rest of the warband jog over. A huge green glowing stone. Throbbing, pushing its way out of the ground. Kalgave jumps from him steed, spreads all three arms wide and stares. Revelling in the radiating glow of warp power from the stone.

The Woods Priest leads the men into the forest and waves the most drunk of the mens forward towards the monolith, and turned to the militia. "You gunners, get as far foward as you can! Cover that blasphemous fucking thing and shoot anyone who goes near it!"

Mask heard the noise. He and Antlers stopped and listened for a moment then they turned their steeds towards it. They were a long way away, they'd have to hurry.

Assisi hears the noise but knows he has more important places to be. He rides on.

Priest runs into the forest. Calling upon the woods to protect their home. Roots rise up and wrap around pistol warriors legs. grabbing for their arms.

Kalgave scowls at the taste of the magic. His helmet snaps right to rizzo and other warrior "dig it out". He twists his body left and leaps. Springing straight towards to mob of drunken louts. No warriors, he would smash them down like nothing.

The mountainmen charge from the forest. Beer bottles, axes, clubs, the surrounded the Chaos champion and flailed in. His wide bladed sword bashed their weapons to the side and those that did hit barely seemed to leave a mark on his skin. The blade swept back, chopping straight through big Jim at the belly and stopping after having hacking Bills leg off. Kalgave punched his shield into another smashing the villager into the man behind.

The gunners are set up ready to fire at the Warriors the woods were holding. The squirrels offerred the priest to help defend the woods. He welcomed them but was surprised when a swarm of fur pulled the two heavily armoured warriors to the ground. The marksmen were too shocked to even fire.

The woodsmen were stunned to see three men die as soon as the Chaos fiend could reach them, he was surrounded by the villagers, but every time his blade lashed out. Men died, or rather men were were chopped to pieces that screamed from the ground and bled to death. The woodsmen readied their axes and charged for back of the monster, if they could stab it in the back maybe they stood a chance to live. The axes bounced from his armour. Kalgave turned his head, Swung his axe in horizontal arc that cut straight though the two woodsmen, turned his head back and on the backswing sliced down another 3 villagers. He slammed his heel into the skull of one who had slipped on the blood. The last was just trying to turn and run as the axlike sword sliced the back of his head from crown to spine. Kalgave stood up on the pile of dead and stared over at the priest then down at the milita who were now aiming their handguns at the Champion.

The Priest looked at the huge champion. Two Horns curling from his head, a single eye of saphire flame. and looked past him at the brightly coloured knights cantering over. "Scatter men. We will fight them another day!"

The gunners ran. These were professional soldiers and while they they liked to think their guns could kill the champion by the time his body his hit the ground they'd be on the end of the knights blades. They dived for the forest and the trails they knew far better than the chaos warband would. They could hear the Priest ahead and followed him.

Kalgave watched them run and turned back towards the Monolith. The knights circled, checking no-one was still around. Kalgave smiled at the warriors who were clearing the stone from the dirt. He could see the winds of Tzeentch flowing through them. The throbbing was stronger. The whole clearing lit with the green light from deep within.

The champion stared deep into the fires of the stone and nodded slowly.

Assisi waits patiently at the forest pass. Tzeentch has told him his prey would come past. He is obvious the any who come this way. He has no need to speak or explain things. The Noble sees the Chaos star on the knights caprision and couches his lance. The two knights accelerate towards each other. Assisis lance pierces Duke Eblingstoke through the shoulder. The Dukes lance knocks Assisi to the ground. The duke grabs the lance, smashes his fist through the wood and rides off, a foot of lance poking out his front and back. He wasn't going to risk this wound. He was much more hurt than the rider with the flowing gold and blue armour who he has just knocked down. Looking over his shoulder he could see the knight was already standing. Watching him ride.

Asissi leapt lightly back onto his chaos steed and rode back towards the green glow in the deep forest and the warband of Kalgave camped beside the warpstone Monolith.


Chaos: Kalgave 18XP. Capture warpstone monolith. 2 chaos warriors become chosen. 2 CW + knight recover. knight Assisi 5XP. 2 knights.

Ostland: 5 gunner milita and Priest of Taal flee.


"Next we need to cut off this entire area. We can't let any messengers reach anywhere in this area. And especially none to leave. We can handle a bunch of terrified mountain men. But we can't fight the Ostland state army."

"How can we cover the area?"

"You don't. We'll call the skaven and the beastmen."


The Priest and the militia soldiers fled into the dark woods "We need to warn "I know a way over to the Flargenburg." Said one. "I can do it fastest alone." He set off down the path. The Priest led the other 4 towards the nearest highway and town.

2 skaven nightrunners ambush the flargenburger at the cliffs. He drops rifle and pulls the two daggers at his hips. He parries the 2 black clad vermin but they tangle his daggers before he can stab. The other ducks under and stabs into the artery at his armpit then jumps backward. The soldier slows and then pours to the ground.

"Hold it here and cover me. I'll enter the old farmhouse." The gunners nodded mutely. The priest jogged forward and stepped over the low window. A pistol shot rang out and squeal of delight as the stone punched into his shoulder. He saw a skaven in the dark and asked the stone to smite it. Nothing happened. The rat grinned at him and sprinted like liquid night past towards the handgunners. Their defensive shots were hurried in the dark and the gutterrunner slit two throats before the last gunner even saw the rat. The rat assasin ducked under hundgun barrels and butts, poisoned blades quickly dispatching the last 2 gunners.

Two more nightrunners charged the Priest. He was weak from the warpstone bullet and the dirty blades darted in and out before he could stop them. The adept kept the twin pistols trainedwhile the trainee engineer poked the corpse with his staff. Ikit would be pleased, he twittered.


Skaven: 5xp win 5xp wipe out. Twin pack skirmisher 1XP. 2hw night runners 1xp. 2hw gutterrunner 4xp.

Ostland is wiped out. No one in the province is aware of the chaos threat.

The most is that Duke Eblingstoke knows about a lone apparently chivalrous chaos knight.


"How do we kill a wizard in the middle of a tower, in the middle of a town, with a full barracks. Without letting every state trooper in ostland and hockland we're here?"
"With 8 of us."
"With 3 knights and I on my beast. and you 4 who can kill any man one on one we'd face in there."
"The knights spread as fast they can through the gates. No ones expecting us. The gates'll be wide open. You ride through. Lance anyone who gets in the way but split off down the streets before resistance can be organised. Ride to seperate corners of the town and cause mayham. Kill any militiamen you see and can easily handle. Keep them from knowing where we are. I'll be doing the same." he looked the chaos warriors. "You 4 keep together. Move within buildings and just quietly murder everyone you see and keep moving towards the wizards tower. Take the entrance. I'll follow you up and we'll kill the wizard and take his staff. The knights clear us an escape route, we run out of there. Leaving the place burning behind us."
"Perfect my Lord."

They were nearly at the town. It was early morning. Kalgave snorted "Take care. The winds of magic seem perturbed." The 3 knights nodded and cantered towards the open gate.

"BOOM"

The cannon roared and the handguns crashed as the knights entered. Ambush.
Bullets bounced from the armour. Assisi leaned backwards as the cannonball punched through where we was.
"The wall!" He yelled and spurred his horse forward the cover of stone wall.

The winds of magic sparkled and popped. Even a champion of the master of magic can't always expect things to go your way when you attack the home town of a master of reading the signs of the sky. Lightning fizzed to nothing. Wild mutation settled back into its natural form.

Kalgave and the warriors charged up the hillside, magical flame pouring from Kalgaves mutant arm and the strange weapons the warriors had been gifted with. The flames ate at the cannon crew, killing two. One beating out the flame. The flame that laughed and danced away from him, mocking him with its hiss, "oww, hot hot."

An empire marksmans handgun drove a dent in the warriors helmet, knocking him to the ground.

The Last thrower warrior swept his gauntlet the length of the cannoneers body, tiny slivers of steel flung from the tubes on the back of his hand and shreaded the man. Kalgave pointed for him to get into cover.

Kalgave kicked his steed and it leapt from the hill over the gap landing near the knights in the cover of the wall.
"Plan B. He knows we're here. The warriors will take cover and prepare us a way out. Knights. Spread and cause as much damage as you safely can. Destroy food, water. Terrorise. Set fires. We are going to have to seige them out. Do what you can now. You'll be safer on the streets than trying to get out. Once they're disrupted then we get out of here and tell the beastmen to ring this place.

Assisi saw the water tower. He knew his lance placed perfectly could knock the support from the tower causing it to smash. Flooding and destroying buildings and removing much drinking water. He ignored the sporadic riflefire, 5 more whizzed past or bounced from his Tzeentch blessed armour. The steel spear smashed through the support. Shattering itself but dropping the tower with an enourmous crashing roar. He threw the lance butt and pulled his sword. "Great sport the joust."

The knights turned to face the huge mob of spearmen, this was where they would make their brake. The two Chosen charged into the mens side causing confusion then the knights slammed into their faces. Half a dozen were crushed, the remainers fled the blades where they could. Which had to be out the gate of the town. Which was exactly where the knights were going. They ran the spearmen down and kept going. Trying to to find the beastmen and skaven messengers.
The chosen turned back to make sure their Champion could leave.

Kalgave was feeling confident. He could still snatch victory from this ambush. If he could turn just one of those militamen charging him into horrors. The damn wizard on his tower. He at least managed to turn one of the militiamen into purple ooze before they charged him.

The Duke charged. But Kalgave brashed aside the lance with his shield. Trying to parry the swarm of infantry.
The Forest knight swung his massive axe, the militia swords and spears were just irritants but that flashing axe crashed straight down past the champions guard. Then stuck harmlessly in an armourplate. Kalgaves slammed the spike of his handguard into the knights neck dropping him like a tree. His steed methodically and unerringly kicked the militiamen in the skull.

The entire remaining empire solidery set up a gun line. Just watching the swirling melee. Whatever came out of it had better be on their side.

The two chosen warriors were nearly ready to help their lord. The Duke could see them approach. He exhaled and launched a flurry of strokes at the champion. The chosen saw one then another get through Kalgaves guard.
They roared and charged. Kalgaves steed went bezerk as if felt its master fall from its back. Skulls were shattering, chests caved. The chosen hacked down more of the militia and Rizzo sliced his blade down the dukes ribs. The duke stabbed his blade back along the line and stabbed the warrior in the eye.

The Duke gasped at his victory, then in pain, but barely had time to savor or feel them when he saw Assisi, the last of Chosen knights charging into the flank of the remaining militiamen, scattering them to the winds. His horse fled in face of the wrath of Kalgaves steed.

The maddened beast ran down the few remaining militia, knocking the duke from his horse. Then it swept heads about, looking for somewhere to vent its rage.
The Steed charged the gunline.
10 handguns, 2 weilded by marksmen, a repeater handgun, all the magic a wiazrd could put out. A perfectly timed and focused chorus of shots blasted the beast to the ground.

Assisi grabbed Kalgave from the ground and galloped after the warriors into the forest in the confusion

The Town is under seige. beastmen and skaven ring it, killing any messengers who try to leave. Kalgave needs the wizards staff.
However the number who know about the invasion has grown.
The Duke, a Knight of the Forest, a Wizard, a junior engineer and around 40 men.
