The Chaos Epic of Negasonic
The negasonic warband is not one of the 'standardised' chaos legions that has come about since 2rd Ed and seems to be almost demanded in 3rd Ed 40k. They are derieved more from the renegade warbands of the old 1st Ed 'Realms of Chaos' books. Where Chaos champions fight their way across the galaxy collecting a band of followers drawn by their sucessess and their following of the ways of the warp. Individuals or Squads who have fought alone for eons, each with their own stories come together to form a mighty army where each alone could have been a famous champion and may well become one as the band sends it own off on missions understandable only by Tzeentch.

The core of Negasonic fights as a CSM force, from 750 to 3000 points. Undivided but with a strong leaning to Tzeentch.

Negasonic has grown over the decades and spawned subbands.
One main Negasonic band, the warband of Darius the Lost, fights as a Lost and the Damned force or as a Daemon Hunters Inquistorial force, but that is another page...
Bagavar has been often leading his sorcerors and in command of vast swarms of mutants. (LatD)
Mr Woo the heavy has recently drawn the attention of the gods and taken to reaving space with his Hellapalossa in honour of injury and the machine (undivided CSMs).

This is my oldest army. Its mostly fully painted to TTR, but in general, badly. I am going over and updating the paintjobs but at the moment I'm more intrested in my WFB armies. But my good ole CSMs will get the benifit of what I learn there when I get back to them.
Negasonic was my army for 2nd Ed (didn't play much) and all of 3rd Ed (I worked in a shop, I played Heaps) so I am a bit sick of it. Thus why the subbands are being played more and built up. They are also being designed with more consistent paint schemes than the original.

    Rizzo

    rizzo just before the band left necromunda Rizzo. A famed slayer. Defeated Eldar masters, the best of the imperium, chaos. A juve who grew up in one of the settlements ruled by the Goliath gang Negasonic on the hive world of necromunda. As he came of age his skill and ferocity with his twin swords gained him an important place in the gang. Along the way he lost an eye to a lasgun and afterwards was almost never known the use a firearm again.
    By the time the gang escaped the planet Necromunda, Rizzo was already a dreaded close combat specialist and in one of the earliest forays into the webway he killed an eldar champion and took his armour, learning the quality of eldar equipment. From his earliest days on necromunda he has been a master of the grav chute and after his elevation to daemonic stature the combination of grav chute, his overgrown legs and jump packs still affords him rapid movement.
    Has used various weapons from his initial two swords, to a great claymore, a redemptionist two handed chainsaw to his present choice of daemonic and power blades.

    His way has always been of battle rather than command but his gigantic cyclopic form will often appear to give gnomic wisdom at the strangest yet most opportune moments.

    When young he clove to Tzeentch like the rest of the gang yet as he climbed it seemed Khorne suited his spirit. Indeed it was in mindset of the bloodgod that Many of his greatest truimphs were performed. The defeat of the Eldar Solitare Assasin Lord whose wraith bone armour he became bonded with. The Slaughter of the 3 avatars of Great Unclean one, the only Greater chaos power Rizzo would never sully his mind with. He knew of blood and and was starting to return to the Way of The Changer, not that anyone every really leaves his Ways when Slaanesh caught his eye, knowing there were those few who could tempt his skills, The beauty of the kill rather than the number, the perfection of movement, the dance, the optimisation of the armour and weapons. He began to modify himself, his nerves bonded with his armour, directly amplifying his already daemonicly fast reflexes, the best of human cyborg technology and elven bone weaving driven by the intellect of Tzeentch, the artisry of Slaanesh and the awesome Might of the Machine God.

    Bagavar

    The chief sorceror of the warband and the one most likely to speak to the troops. In imperial terms more like a commissar than an officer, leaving the various champions to control their own troops.
    Usually rides a Disk of Tzeentch and uses a +d6" staff and 'turn you into a spawn' or winds of chaos. His power scythe, daemonic strength and mutation (disk) mean he is a more than capable melee fighter. It is occasionally joked that he spends too much time examining the nature of Khorne as he has been known to charge to assault when it may have been less than wise. But his daemonic form has always allowed him to rejuvenate himself.

    Elite

    The Gifted.

    The gifted are a variety of fighters. Some of the oldest and most mutated thousand sons, some blessed by the machine god.
    They operate as either possessed with daemonic talons using a rhino. (pre-TVR 3rd Ed) Making them a highly resiliant, fast (with the rhino), mostly very deadly assault unit who can take out literally any foe.
    They may also be fielded as Chosen with MoCU, led by the sorceror Delgado with Winds of chaos, the fallen Dark Angel Orjan and 2 or 3 plasma pistols and/or meltas. They use the Rhino to get close, pour out the blast of anti-armour fire power then, if need be, assault the remainer before returning to the rhino. This is the standard config for 3/4th Ed, also used in the Warp Ensemble.
    In 5th Ed They are fielded as 1ksons led by the sorcerors.

    Oblitorators

    Amoung the most holy and respected of the warband are the oblitorators. Blessed by the Machine God to truely be one with their machines. Very powerful mobile (if slow) firepower. Usually used as initial Vehicle hunters they then turn to anti heavy infantry duties with their plasma.

    Terminators

    The terminators provide mobile fire power. Often with tank hunter and given the role of dreadnaught hunting. They have been known to knock out even Land Raiders. Mr Woo the Reaper has been with the warband since he toted a heavy stubber on necromunda. Rogue-inquistor Darius is more often seen seperate from the main force leading his warband of renegade guard.

    Troops

    The troops of negasonic usually fight in the same squads but there is considerable cross training between them. A bolter CSM from an Iron squad may join Red squad to give extra ranged support. The ancient thousand sons giving advice to the younger iron monkies etc. The squads are almost areas of philosopical instrest and style as much as fighting units. Various renegade and chaos marines of many legions and chapters have joined the squads in their time, singly and in groups.

    Blue Squad

    Some of the oldest marines in the band. Most of blue squad saw the original cowardly assault of the Space Wolves on the Thousand Sons home world. Unlike the majority of the thousand sons who were trapped by the misguided magic of Ahriman. The marines of blue squad were led by their sorcerors off world before the rubric. So they could stay at one with the blessed changes of Tzeentch. They are nearly all mutated yet fairly stable. Those who continue the path usually join the Gifted squad.
    This initial core of warriors took the fleeing gang negasonic under the wing as they fled from necromunda for chaos worship. This meeting was the begining of the warband in its present form.

    Iron Squads

    Heavy Support. Mostly Iron Monkey marines, an Iron Hands company who were stranded on the planet Ig by warp storms. Their philosophies of improvement melded well with the warband and have they have become a major influence, leading to an understanding of the true way of the Machine unlike those deluded adepts of Mars.
    The Iron squads mostly provide fire support but recently, especially under command of Woo, has started training in infiltration and close assault.

    Red Squad

    Infiltrators. Close Fire Support. A very nasty speed bump. Red Squad take the most damage in nearly every battle often being blasted down to the last man but they virtually always get the job done.
    Red squad includes ex-blood angels, and even some ex-World Eaters, one who turned from the thirst to now burn his enemies with plasma, another who gifts his skulls to khorne with a bolt pistol shot in the eye.
    Red Squad was commanded by the Dark Angel Orjan but more recently most often by Krom, as Orjan is having more Command Squad duties. Krom was the most promising of the elite warriors from the warp storm shrouded planet Ig. Krom has taken the philosophies of the warband to heart and has become a great warrior, leader and teacher. He makes use of the strengths of the various powers of the warp but never lets himself fall to the insanity that tempts so many. His extra arm was gifted to him quite soon after he started to take the role of Red Squads main melee fighter and he soon began to take the mantle of command, not letting any quest for personal glory or the thirst of his axes stop him from the wise use of stealth or ranged firepower as was necessary for any job.

    Fast Attack

    Raptors

    The primary assault power of Negasonic comes from the raptors. The main warband relies on shooting power and as the specialist assault squad they are very good at it. Very fast, only striking where they need to and very decisively deadly. champion 3H plasma pistol. An ex-iron monkey someway along the path.
    The champion (variously known as Bill, Ted and Fred or often just '3H') had been roaming space alone for who knows many years, decades or centuries. Killing with his rune blades and chaos blessed form when he joined the warband. He kept his mostly solitary role, sometimes supporting Rizzo or the sorcerors until joined by a pair of raptors who wished to keep their previous alligience in their past. The Iron Monkies had captured enough parts of imperial jump packs and some of the assault marines joined the newly formed squad.
    The Raptors are one of the few squads with mixed origins with a consistent uniform, Iron Monkey based black dry brushed bolter, blue thighs with the negasonic wire, gold highlights, red gauntlets and mask faced left shoulder pad.

    Heavy Support

    Avatar of the Machine God

    One of the most important aspects of the philosophy of the warband is the knowledge of the false understanding of the machine the Imperials have.
    This was strongly bourne out when the Avatar strode onto the battlefield alongside the warband, his ancient plasma cannon vomiting energy blasts into the enemy. Almost nothing stops him, Lascannons have blown off his arms then the warp coalleses and he is back whole within minutes.
    Possessed, mutated hull, parasitic possession. Sometimes has flames of Tz or uses a twin lascannon.

    Others

    A few guys in progress. I've always wanted to make a bullpup bolter and finally got around to it. Looks pretty nifty so far IMO. Will be in a 'mini Oblit' squad. Tac marines of the chaos machine god using some iron warriors bits with most of them with modified and upgraded guns of various sorts. Will be used to bulk out bolter marine squads or fielded 'treat as' Noise marines or 1k sons depending who the lord is.

    The sorc with the claw is mainly to lead one of the mutant skaven swarms in Warp Ensemble LatD force. Especially when he has 20+ bodies as meat shield a powerfist seems far more useful than the normal sword to this champ of Tzeentch. At the moment he has the highly evocative and imaginative name "New Guy". The claw when I sculpt it will probably somewhat skaven cybernetic looking, or I may end up just organic mutation, we'll see.

    Colour Scheme

    The Negasonic warband has a very relaxed colour scheme, with little consistency.
    Some almost standards, in vague order of importance, are:
  • Blue (festering blue) shoulder pads (especially left) with the Negasonic wire.
  • Blue (enchanted blue) thighs with the Negasonic wire.
  • Gold trim.
  • Black bolters.
  • Red gauntlets usually mean assault training.
  • Black drybrushed metal usually means tech training
  • Lots of stuff on the bases for infiltators.
  • They are encouraged to show their background and progress and change. eg many wear their old chapter or legion schemes or keep the heraldry. Some hold the weapons or icons of enemies they respect. Some use old icons as the only thing that stops them from complete possession by the warp.
  • If in doubt paint the armour enchanted blue.
  • Sorcerors have red armour and blue cloaks.

    The most recognisable uniform of the warband is the Negasonic Wire. This pattern is also used throughout the many gangs and cults of the syndicate. The Negasonic Wire is a a red pattern on the armour, usually on a blue background. It is a thorn covered vine, red warp lightning, a tearing in the boundaries of reality. It can be a dark, barely visible purple up to the most common bright blood red, with white flashes and orange highlights.
